ITIA Suspends Player for Association with Suspended Individual
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has recently taken action against a player for associating with a suspended individual, leading to a three-month suspension. This enforcement falls under the “prohibited association” clause of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP), which strictly prohibits any connections with individuals facing sanctions or scrutiny under the program’s regulations.
German Player Mina Hodzic’s Case
ITIA revealed that German player Mina Hodzic associated herself with Jordi Marse-Vidri during an event in Barcelona in October 2024. Marse-Vidri is currently serving a 15-year ban from professional tennis competitions due to various offenses. As per TACP rules, players not under suspension must refrain from any interactions with sanctioned individuals.
Despite warnings from ITIA to avoid associating with Marse-Vidri, who had offered coaching to Hodzic, the player now faces a suspension until June 5, 2025, along with a $1,000 fine. Hodzic must comply with the suspension terms to seek reinstatement, including refraining from attending or participating in any sanctioned events.
Events sanctioned by organizations like the ITF, WTA, USTA, and ITIA are off-limits for Hodzic during her suspension period.
Marse-Vidri’s Involvement in Match-Fixing Scandal
Jordi Marse-Vidri was part of a significant match-fixing scandal, as described by ITIA. He was among six players convicted of criminal charges related to match-fixing activities, including Marc Fornell Mestres, Carlos Ortega, Jaime Ortega, Marcos Torralbo, and Pedro Bernabe Franco.
The group orchestrated fixed games to benefit sports bettors, resulting in severe consequences. Marse-Vidri received a suspension in 2022 and was fined $15,000, with $5,000 of the penalty suspended.
